A breakfast event hosted by Marian Harkin MEP and Heinz Becker MEP and moderated by Ian Banks, Chair of EFAB was held in the restaurant of the European Parliament in conjunction with World Diabetes Day on Tuesday 15 November 2016.
A panel of experts from across the eye health field discussed how sight loss can be prevented through early detection of eye diseases and adequate treatment. The event marked also the launching of a position paper highlighting the need to enhance screening, promote research and increase access to specialists will be presented at the event.
Professor Einar Stefánsson, President of the EU-EYE gave the keynote speech on Preventing Blindness. This speech focused on the increasing prevalence of eye diseases in Europe in an ageing population population rises and the need to make eye diseases a priority in EU policy decisions and funding for research.
