Code of Conduct

Governance & Transparency

EU EYE is an alliance of subspecialty ophthalmology societies and associations.

The Alliance places great importance on ethical conduct, and its success and good reputation rely on the honesty, integrity, and sound judgment of everyone involved in its activities.

EU EYE is governed by its bye-laws, which guide how the Alliance functions and is managed.
These are supported by governance policies which, together with the bye-laws, provide a framework for ethical decision-making, responsible leadership, and transparent communication with members and other stakeholders.

Transparency

Board and Committee members are required to disclose any personal or financial interests which could influence their decision-making. Board members and speakers must disclose any conflicts of interest prior to participating in EU EYE events or publications.

Commitment

EU EYE’s activities are dedicated to fulfilling the Alliance’s mission. All officers and representatives to external bodies such as EU institutions and agencies are expected to demonstrate full commitment to these goals.

Advocacy Integrity

EU EYE commits to advocate at EU and national levels in a way that is honest, ethical, and consistent with our values of transparency, accountability, and moral courage, in order to build trust and credibility with stakeholders. EU EYE representatives ensure that actions and communications align with the Alliance’s mission and principles and that these actions are evidence-based, with the rights, health, and well-being of people or causes in mind. Members are expected to adhere to relevant and applicable codes, including the Belgian Code of Companies and Associations (CCA) and the EU Transparency Register.

Scientific Integrity

All information shared through presentations, publications, and communications must be accurate, objective, and well-balanced. EU EYE strictly prohibits any misrepresentation of data, plagiarism, or unethical practices. Members are expected to follow relevant and applicable codes such as:
• World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki
• ARVO Statement for the Use of Animals in Ophthalmic and Vision Research
• Codes of medical practice as determined by the national medical association or regulatory body of their country of practice.

Integrity

EU EYE commits to transparency, trust, and fairness in all activities, ensuring an environment of open-mindedness, inclusivity, and tolerance. The EU EYE Community—including members, representatives, and all participants—is expected to act with the utmost professionalism, respecting the rights and dignity of others. Discrimination, harassment, or any form of inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Accountability

Every individual within EU EYE is responsible for their actions and the quality of their contributions to the Alliance’s projects and activities.
